Testing

What Testing is Done?

Many City positions, especially entry-level jobs, require applicants to take written and/or computerized examinations. Tests are one of the most useful tools to hire qualified people for public service jobs because they allow candidates to demonstrate their abilities and knowledge as they relate to the essential functions of the position. Therefore, different types of tests are given for different types of jobs. These tests occur before the interview process so that the employer knows the skill level of the applicant before they have an opportunity to develop an impression of that person.

Notification for Testing

If you meet the minimum qualifications of the position for which you applied, you will receive notification of the required testing. Applicants usually receive written notification of scheduled examinations. Proof of identification is required for admittance to the exam. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your test time to check-in and get seated. Entrance will not be permitted once instruction has begun.
